Emotional War (poem)

I think, I feel, I fear
Irrational thoughts that
Overthrow logic and reason
My heartbeat quickens
As panic intensifies
My entire body
On alert
Danger surrounding me
Suffocating me

My breath shallow
My limbs weak
A dense fog
Within my mind
My body
And soul
I am trapped
Motionless, heavy limbs
Gravity magnified
Pulling me down

I close my eyes
Focus on my breathing
The silence around me
Punctuated by time
A ticking clock
Counts my breath
I breathe deeply in
My body relaxes
My heart slows
I breathe slowly out
The fog clears
Revealing peace
