The Last Rain

As rain falls from the sky
So tears fall from my eyes
My heart shredded and torn

Time heals all… all but this
Nothing will repair the void
Of your absence in this world

Rain falling, heavier now
Bouncing on glossy dark wood
Beading on petals and leaves

You rest deep in the earth
Darkness will cover you
Sodden earth now your quilt

Everyone has gone, yet I remain
On my knees, my hands grasping
At wet grass, mud under my nails

I cannot imagine the future
How do I leave, how do I live
Without you by my side
