After a three week break from running, I’m back!
My sprained foot was feeling a lot better this week so on Monday morning I went for a walk with a friend (it’s our regular Monday morning thing). We did a reasonably paced 4 km walk around the village and afterwards my foot felt ok, I was tired from my illness the week before but pleased that my foot was improving.
On Tuesday I went to the gym and pool, I did 25 minutes on the cross trainer (3.7 km), then attempted a run on the treadmill. After a couple of minutes my foot felt quite uncomfortable so I didn’t push it and instead enjoyed a short swim in the pool (20 lengths).
Wednesday, I did a 6 km walk around the village and everything was ok.
Thursday I went to the gym again, 5.5 km on the cross trainer and tried another treadmill run with a little more success this time, but only managed about 5 minutes total.
Friday and Saturday I did two 5 km walks around the village and was feeling hopeful that I may be able to attempt a Sunday morning run.
Which brings me to today. I went out with my younger son, warning him that we may end up doing more walking than running but he was ok with that. So, after warming up and a 5 minute brisk walk we started running and it was ok. We did 5 min run, 2 min walk, 5 min run, 2 min walk, 5 min run, then a cool down walk back to the house.
I managed a total of 15 minutes running and I am so happy to be back running again. It’s been a long 3 weeks of recovery and although I know I will have to take it easy in getting back to full ability I’m happy to have started!
