My Senses Explore: a poem

an unfamiliar place
my senses on standby
my eyes roam greedily
over each tiny detail
my ears on alert
each sound a threat
the scent unusual
evoking past memories
my skin tingles with fear
in the dank, chill air
my fingers exploring
smooth and jagged edges
my feet steady and still
on the hard stony ground
