My running week (16)

Following our holiday last week, I was super keen to restart training for my 10k run at the end of the month. This week has been busy with various appointments etc and the usual post school holiday chores, but as I wrote earlier in the week, I also wanted to get back into my routine. Part of my routine being structured exercise; running, swimming, gym. I haven’t been to the gym or the pool this week but I have had a fantastic running week!

Monday – after waiting in for the electrician to replace our heating timer and then a grocery delivery, it was about 5pm before I could leave the house. So, accompanied by my running buddy (younger son) we then went for a half hour gentle run.

Wednesday – I had a late morning appointment at the hospital with liaison psychiatry to review my medication. The hospital backs onto a country park and a canal, it was a lovely day so I decided to try a long run before my appointment, I managed my planned 7km but the heat was unbearable as there was no shade and no breeze. Following this run I doubted my ability to be able to complete a full 10k.

One of my virtual race challenges for April was to run the equivalent distance of a marathon, linked to today’s London Marathon. I am happy that my 7km run enabled me to complete the 26.2 mile distance.

Friday – I went out early to do 5k before an appointment with my GP, again it was a lovely morning but not as hot as Wednesday. I completed my 5k, was in the surgery for 30 minutes and when I came out I decided to try and run a second 5k. Very pleased that I managed this and that my pace was the same for both runs, with a total 10k time of a little under 66 minutes.

Sunday – me and my running buddy were up and out early, it was another lovely morning, a little cooler than previous days so quite refreshing. We had a great run, it started raining as we were 5 minutes from home and then absolutely soaked us as we sprinted back to the house. Loved it!

This week:

  • 4 days, 5 runs
  • total distance 26km
  • longest run 7km, 45 minutes
  • completed my April marathon distance

I am really making progress with training up to a 10k distance, and I am still totally enjoying running!

I am very excited for next week when I will attempt my first ever full 10k.

Have a great week peeps,
Karen x
