My running week (17)

YAY! Go me! 10k in the bag!

Hi everyone and welcome to another Sunday running update 🙂

Once again I have amazed myself with a fabulous week of running. My main aim for the week was to complete my 10k run for Parkinson’s UK, in memory of my uncle who had lived with Parkinson’s for many years. Encouraged by my efforts last week where I managed a 7k run and a couple of days later two 5k runs with a 30 minute rest break, I was confident that I would manage the 10k.

I ran my last 5k training run on Monday, scheduled a rest day on Tuesday with a plan to do the 10k on either Wednesday or Thursday depending on the weather (heavy rain and thunder forecast). Wednesday evening, the weather looked good, so shortly before 7pm I went out.

On Tuesday, I had planned out three possible routes using Mapometer and with hubby’s input decided which route would be the best (easiest). The beginning and end of each route was roads I had ran many times before, so I was confident that I’d manage those, and each route had a significant uphill section. On my chosen route the (brutal) hill was between 2-3k, I thought it better to have the hill nearer the start than the end, so I gave it my absolute best shot and only needed two short walking breaks to get to the top.

It was a lovely evening, not too hot, a bit breezy (a little too breezy in places) and I was running in the beautiful countryside, with Chris Martin (Coldplay) playing through my headphones. I hit the fatigue wall at around 7-8k and slowed my pace a little, but energised by my anthems “Headful of Dreams” and “Adventure of a Lifetime”, I knew I could make it!

I was pretty tired by the time I got home but the tiredness was buried under an incredible sense of achievement and pumped up energy…

I had run for 1 hour and 15 minutes, a total distance of 10.6km.

In December, I was not a runner and I had no intention of ever becoming a runner.
From the first run of the C25K programme to 10k in April.
Just 4 months of training!

  • total distance 26km
  • longest run 10.6km
  • April total distance 83.8km
  • 10k time of 1:10:07

What’s next? Half-marathon?
