Sensing Danger (poem)

eyes dart and search feverishly
always watching
looking
waiting
panic swells with every movement
as paranoia grips in a stranglehold of distrust
hush now, people approaching
hold your breath
become invisible
as you try to shrink into the shadows
sensing danger all around
slight threats magnified by fear
suspicion, anxiety
cold sweat chills your skin
step away, eyes lowered
back to safety
