My running week (22)

Happy Sunday to you all!

I have had an awesome running week, early morning runs, loads of PBs, and an extremely rainy parkrun.

Last week was school half term holidays so I had to get up and out early in order that I’d be home before hubby left for work. I rather crazily ran on four consecutive days (Monday to Thursday) which was fine in that I achieved personal bests on days 3 and 4 but not so good because it left my knees feeling rather achy from the stresses they’ve been exposed to. Even so, I had planned to finish the week with parkrun on Saturday and a rest day on Sunday.

My not-so-little running buddy was supposed to be accompanying me to parkrun and we were going to do our usual one, but he wasn’t awake before I left (strongly suspect he’d been watching his TV after turn off time) so I decided rather impulsively to try a different parkrun. I am fortunate in that where I live there are four parkruns within around 20 minutes drive.  However, driving along the motorway in the pouring rain, I did wonder why I was doing this… but we runners don’t let a bit of (torrential) rain stop us, so I carried on.

It was a very friendly parkrun, much smaller numbers than my usual one which was nice. I was absolutely soaked before the run started, so splashing through puddles wasn’t a problem. This parkrun is mostly on grass which I found more difficult to run on than the forest tracks and pavements that I’m used to, but even so I recorded my best parkrun time yet and was first in my age category (only out of 5 but still an achievement). I’m really pleased that I took the opportunity to try a new venue and will certainly be back there again.

PBs achieved this week

1 km 4:58 on Wednesday 30th May

1 mile 8:13 also Wednesday 30th May

5 km 28:05 on Thursday 31st May

Best parkrun time at 28:33 (but different parkrun to my regular one so it’s not directly comparable, prev best time 29:54)

Next week, I will write about my running goals for June and the upcoming school summer holiday… it really does seem like they’re never in school! Have a lovely week!
