oh how I love the summer break (1)

Yesterday was day one of the school summer holidays, weekends don’t count and neither do the previous three weeks with just older son.  Yesterday was the first day that both boys were home and hubby was at work (hence why weekends don’t count!).  I had a peaceful hour or so until I had to switch into “aggravated mum mode”.  I would have been happy with having to operate in normal mum mode, but the whole mum thing is made so much worse when the children are being their most annoying selves.

By about 10am I would have cheerfully packed them off to Antarctica for a month.

The difficulty with my boys is that they argue with and annoy each other all the time, and I mean ALL THE TIME.  Which means I fluctuate between ignoring their behaviour and peacekeeping, interspersed with a great deal of “will you two just shut up/stop/leave each other alone” and “no, I don’t care who did what”.  On their own they can be lovely, delightful, amusing, kind, helpful etc. and they are generally fine with other children, it’s just each other they struggle with.

Just one day into the long six weeks and I’m seeking comfort from a Cadbury’s Wispa and counting down the days until the new school term.

Peace & love, K x

p.s. there may be a significant amount of despairing blogging on ‘being a mum of teenage boys with additional needs during the summer break’, you have been warned.

  1. Oh I forgot it was only 6 weeks in England. It’s closer to 3 months in the US! What does that tell you? I remember those days well 😊 You have my sympathy.
You did the right thing – always resort to chocolate. It cures all pain!
