As mentioned last week I’d been managing a strained calf muscle, although my management of it comprised of alternating resting with running which maybe wasn’t the best strategy. In my defence it seemed so much better and didn’t actually hurt when running. However, about 4-5 hours after Woodford, last Sunday, the pain started again and ouch it hurt! Struggling to walk up or down stairs I decided that I would rest it for as long as needed.
And I did. From Monday to Friday I rested it, which gave me lots of editing time. I did some walking, went swimming twice and by Wednesday the pain had gone. Hoping things were ok I decided to do parkrun on Saturday, which unfortunately has aggravated it again so I’ll be having another heavy duty rest week next week.
It’s actually been a whole month since I last did parkrun, mainly because I’ve been racing every weekend for the past four weeks, so I was really looking forward to it. My younger son hasn’t been running since August, he seems to have lost all enthusiasm, but as this would have been his 10th parkrun (a milestone for juniors) he readily agreed to join me.
He was amazing! He knocked over a minute off his PB finishing in under 28 minutes. It would be great if he got back into running as he has great potential. Next week is the 4th birthday of our home parkrun, which they mark by running the course in reverse, I imagine this quirk will persuade him out again… well that and the celebration cakes!
I was also very pleased to achieve a new course PB and absolutely thrilled to discover I’d come 1st in my age category.
