My zero running week (42)

While it’s clear that I’m going to have a few weeks of zero running, I am hopeful that it will be weeks rather than months.  Obviously I’m no expert when it comes to strains, sprains and tears but I have relentless optimism and a large amount of faith in my body’s ability to heal and strengthen.

Just one week ago the pain in my leg was horrendous, it definitely ranked in my top five of worst pain ever, and I was 100% reliant on my crutches to get around the house and for all brief excursions out of the house.  By Wednesday I was able to shuffle slowly around the house under my own steam, and since then my mobility has improved day to day and my shuffle has morphed into a gentle walk.

I am being very careful not to overextend my calf.  I no longer need pain relief but am continuing with the anti-inflammatory gel.  Overall, I’m very pleased with the level of improvement in such a short time.

My plans for next week are to continue resting it as much as possible, but younger son is on half term holiday so I may be doing a little more than last week, and likely a little more than I should but I will continue to use my crutches when out of the house and endeavour to find a range of activities that involve sitting down.

Wishing you all a great week x
