A non-running runner

Eighteen days since I last took a run
A gentle 5k just a bit of fun
13th October, it wasn’t a Friday
Although for me it was pretty unlucky
A parkrun party with cake at the end
The wettest run ever according to friends
I finished the run and ate lots of cake
But struggled to walk because of the ache
Then searing pain which made me feel queasy
A day on the sofa taking it easy
The news was bad, I’d torn my calf
No running for weeks, please don’t laugh
This isn’t the first time I’ve injured myself
But this is the worst and bad for my health
I sit on the sofa and write all day
Dreaming of running a half next May
But sitting around is making me fat
I still eat the same or more come to that
But when I was running an hour a day*
So easy to keep the lbs away
But now I have to watch what I eat
Before my buttons fail to meet
A non-running runner is no life for me
Perhaps this time I’ll learn to take it easy
