I am a writer…

I am a writer because I write, but more than that I am a writer because of WordPress, because of social media, because of the way society interacts in the modern world.

In the manner of the old lady who swallowed a fly: I started a blog because of facebook, because facebook analyses everything about you and recommends pages and challenges, because I’d liked various mental health pages I was targeted by facebook for RED January, because of RED January I read some blogs, which were published on WordPress, and because of reading I decided to write via WordPress.

I am a writer because I write.

I write because of depression.

I write because of cancer.

I write because of running.

I write because of being a mum.

I write because of the opportunites that have drifted in front of me, blown on the wind like dandelion seeds.

I write because I reached out and grabbed hold of these seeds.

Yesterday, I grabbed hold of another seed.  I’d read on WordPress about a writing opportunity for a book documenting personal stories about mental illness.  Having grabbed the seed I contacted the editor and offered my story.

I am a writer because I write.

But also because people read what I write, believe in me and in my writing.
