The Red Dress (pt.1)

my eyes aware
of a vibrant glow
lighting the display
in the shop window
stopping abruptly
I turn and stare
at the gleaming red dress
completely unaware
of the people behind
who swerve around
their muttering voices
a gentle sound
their annoyance humming
like waves on a beach
in the hustle and bustle
I’m out of reach
as lost in the beauty
my senses are numb
afloat in my dreams
all sense overcome
my hand’s on the glass
as I break from a trance
and wonder a moment
if there’s really a chance
of a future for me
and this dress of red
with sequins and fringe
I’d knock ’em dead

But I’m not that person
standing out in the crowd
I stay in the shadows
.                               alone
.                                     with head bowed
