• the ability to continue trying to do something, although it is very difficult

For some, determination is a fleeting concept; an attitude that rises when faced with a single problematic task or event.  These people, and I’m sure they really do exist, drift along in a happy haze of contentment where life is just life and nothing makes it difficult enough to need to dig deep for the inner strength to keep going day after day.

Maybe these people never learn the true meaning of determination.

And maybe they also don’t understand just how difficult life circumstances can be for some.

Life threatening or long term illness.

Depression/mental illness.

Abusive relationships of any kind, including workplace bullying.

A constant stream of problems that impact every single aspect of life.

Maybe the people who live with such difficulties have no choice but to be determined.
To force themselves to keep going, knowing that it will take every tiny bit of their energy (physical or mental).
To know that however much they may want to, giving up is not an option.
Day after day, into weeks, months, and years.

And those that don’t understand will think it’s all in the past.
They don’t understand that you can’t just move on and heal the pain (physical or emotional).

You start each day with optimism and realism; hoping that things will be easier but knowing that they probably won’t be.
While they start each day knowing that everything will be fine as it always is.
