I’m sure I’m not alone in liking a little bit of routine, not so much as to make life boring but enough to prevent festering on a day to day basis!
Friday is stretch class, having sufficient foresight to put my sketch book and pencils in the car meant I could pop over to the art centre and park after class for some sketching practice. I was a little bit disappointed that the art exhibitions had changed as I was hoping to study the watercolours that I’d seen last week. But that disappointment lasted mere seconds as I studied the first guy’s work, and wondered how such abstract art could demand prices in the hundreds of pounds range. The exhibition upstairs was oil paintings by Gillian Robertson, the majority of them landscapes, I really liked her style.
I sat down and sketched two of her paintings, notated with title and colour schemes with a vision of creating something similar in watercolours… no pressure Karen.
I then took a walk around the park, stopping and sketching as and when something caught my eye.
I have decided that trees are particularly difficult, Wednesday and Thursday produced the following watercolours, which looking at again I quite like the second one.
And a quick sketch while waiting for my son after school.
I’m not going to be over critical, after all it’s not like I’ve been playing at being an artist for long, but there’s certainly room for improvement.
Have a great weekend, K x
