Just because it’s vegan, doesn’t mean it’s healthy

During Veganuary I subscribed to a monthly box of vegan treats from The Vegan Kind.

One of the items in March’s box was a vegan version of a Pot Noodle (no idea if Pot Noodles are vegan anyway). Having done double classes this morning, stretch followed by Kettlebells, I wanted something quick and easy for lunch and opening the cupboards I found the ‘Natur Compagnie Asia style vegetable and noodle soup’.

Quick and easy it certainly ticked those boxes – fill to line with boiling water, stir, wait 4 minutes. And it actually tasted good too! However, when I logged it on My Fitness Pal the following message was displayed:

This meal/snack contained 122% of my recommended sodium. Not necessarily a problem for me as I’ve been advised I have low sodium anyway, but shocking regardless and proof that just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean it’s healthy.

  1. That is so true! Unfortunately these vegan options are usually a highly processed food with huge amounts of sugar and other very unhealthy ingredients like artificial colors for example. It’s becoming more and more difficult to do some healthy grocery shopping. You really need to read the label carefully when you purchase every single product… otherwise you will end up with highly processed, GMO disgustingly unhealthy products. That’s a great and very informative post! Thank you for sharing! Take care Karen!

The best thing for our bodies is to make all food from its basic ingredients, it’s a tricky balance of time, convenience, inclination…

  2. Yea it is very true just like no one would expect just because something is called food it is healthy for consumption. There are just so many factors to it. People regardless of their diets are ingesting too much sodium like how a burger can have an insane amount of sugar and salt and yet every day people eat them and say its protein rich ignoring other factors to it. Luckily more and more people are aware of what they are eating and do positive changes in their life!
    Have a great day!

Another shocking one is yoghurt, some of them have insane amounts of added sugar. Thanks for the message ☺️
