Way back when a friend and I used to meet at Borders Bookshop, we’d find each other in the self-help and spiritual section where there was a book about witchcraft. It included a list of names that were ‘witch’ names and those that were borderline. From that day I have identified as a borderline witch whereas my friend was a 100% witch, at least her name was!
One of our neighbours is a very unreasonable man and today (unfortunately) I had reason to ask him whether some workmen could lean their ladder up from his driveway to the side of my house – I’d asked his wife earlier in the week and she said it’d be fine.
He started having a go at me about some work the water company had done on the pavement outside our property’s boundary… apparently I should have apologised for the disruption as his drive was blocked for four weeks.
i) while we had reported the leak, it was not from our water supply, so not our responsibility
ii) his drive was not blocked at any point (definition: to obstruct by placing obstacles in the way), maybe half a cone’s width but certainly not blocked
iii) this was more than a year ago, seriously move on a’hole and while you’re at it you can stick my apology…
Voodoo
My sharp blade carves your initial
Its slender shape names this effigy, as you
Your mortal body bound to this woven doll
My fingers tighten their hold, constricting your breath
All harm you’ve done is returning to you
As needles pierce and slowly break skin
Drawn lines of blood spring from cloth
What was mine is now yours
My suffering returned to you
The balance of power now lies in my hands

Oddly enough my mother bought me the pack a couple of years ago (a bargain from The Works I think!) she thought I’d be interested, though I’m not sure why as I’d never mentioned anything about wanting to read Tarot before! I thought they could make nice art though if I cut them up and made a collage. Maybe that would be bad juju..!

Jeees, your neighbour sounds like he’s got a stick up his bum. I think you did more than you had to by running it past him after you’d already asked and got the ‘okay’ from his wife. Re: the witchcraft, that’s really interesting & I don’t think I ever knew you identify as a ‘borderline’ witch! I used to be fascinated by witchcraft when I was younger & was interested in Wicca and the like in my later teens but it never went any further than that. Love the poem its darkly sumptuous edge and intrigue. xx

I had a pack of tarot cards when I was a teen, no idea what happened to them. Never really got the hang of reading them.

I have a pack, if ever you want them I’m happy to send them on! Mine came with this booklet so you could learn to read tarot, but I never could grasp it. Boggles my mind how tarot readers can remember so much about the symbols and their countless combinations.
