Weekend art

Sunday evening and the weekend is nearly over. The boys will be back at school /college tomorrow and I will have some much needed breathing space.  Sadly, this will only be for three short weeks until, you guessed it, more holidays.  I am not in the least bit ecstatic at the prospect of 10+ weeks of summer holidays.

It’s been a relatively quiet weekend here, parkrun and walking Jess yesterday, and today we went to our archery club where we enjoyed two games of archery darts who knew I’d be so good at it!  I also spent a good amount of time painting.

Looking at my completed paintings I wondered what I should paint next.  I quickly decided to practice the windmill and add more flowers (which are certainly the worst bit of it) by using the first painting, and my memory, as a guide.

Painting 2

I’m very pleased with the result (apart from the flowers).  In the second painting I used a fine brush to accent detail instead of pen, and I prefer the brown sails and the lighter colours of the windmill.  In painting 1, the pen marks have really helped bring texture to the background trees and the grass/flower line in the foreground.

Spot the difference

Maybe in version 3 I’ll combine the best of both and produce a perfect image!

  1. They both look fabulous. So much detail.

Looking great! I agree, pen marks to help bring out fine detail and make it ‘pop’. Stupid question, what’s archery darts? Is it just a different propellant used instead of the arrow? I feel stupid even asking!
Crikey, I hadn’t realised they only get 3 weeks back before being off again. I don’t remember the school terms being like this when I was little…😂

No need to feel stupid, I made the name archery darts up! Basically it’s just archery but with the target was designed like a dart board, so we scored from 301 down to finish on a double! It was fun.
I didn’t realise college broke up so early, my younger son is GCSE year so he finishes when his exams finish.
