There’s this thing I do which is basically getting over enthusiastic about things before I should.
‘Not a bad trait’, I’m sure you’re thinking
‘Harness your enthusiasm’
‘It’s great to be passionate about something’
All very valid agruments for enthusiasm… BUT… here’s the thing
- I’ve done one 10k race in the past three months
- I didn’t run the whole distance
- It made my leg sore
So, why do I find myself wistfully researching marathons online? Why, when I haven’t even done a half marathon do I think a full marathon is achievable?
The answer is self-belief, determination and wanting the kudos of being able to say “I’ve run a marathon”. I am hopeful (as ever) that my injury/injuries are on the mend and that over the next couple of months I’ll be able to start building my running distances again, but maybe hold off on reserving that marathon place for a while.
