Thinking about goals for 2020

After a complete failure to write/post a poem a day for all of December… I didn’t even manage a week!  I am on a mission to get my ducks in a row, if that’s the correct expression, for a running start in 2020.

Why didn’t I manage a poem a day?  Because I was so busy painting Chrsitmas cards for my stall at our village Christmas event and my mind was in artist mode not poet mode!  The Christmas fair was on Saturday and was successful in that I came out with a profit and made a new connection with a local artist, and unsuccessful in that I didn’t sell any of my books and still have a lot of cards left.  At least I’ll be well stocked for next year without much effort.  I also got a lot of great feedback about my artwork and my poetry that’s been included in our local monthly magazine over the past year and a bit.

Overall, however, it was a long and very tiring day and sales weren’t really of sufficient value to make it worthwhile.  I will have to think carefully about whether I participate next year.

I’ve mentioned previously that I haven’t done a lot to promote my writing this year, I’ve been very focused on painting which has taken away from my writing.  I have been trying to find a publisher for my children’s book but no luck yet, the options now are to find an agent or to self-publish.  I’m veering towards self-publishing but not 100% sure yet.

I want to hit 2020 with determination and specific goals, and use social media and online sales channels more effectively.  I’m going to get an Instagram account, have switched my Pinterest to business and set up sales avenues on these as well as Facebook.  I have also registered for an Issuu account which means I can publish my own poetry/art magazine.

This all sounds great, doesn’t it?  But to accomplish this I need to formulate a plan, which do I focus on first?  When shall I aim for?  And I think I need a weekly timetable where I schedule time for social media, time to build my blog further, time to create products.  This will be where it all falls down and what I end up doing is flitting from one thing to the next and never actually getting anywhere with any of them!

Wish me luck!
