Holidays (Poem 2019 – 53) – prose poem

Today is the last art class of the year but the group are meeting at a cafe next week for a social so that will make the Christmas break feel shorter.  Many groups and clubs shut down over holidays which can leave people isolated if these are the only places where they socialise.  Holidays can be difficult for people for many reasons, take a moment to check on your neighbours this Christmas.

(poem a day: day 8)

Christmas sparkles with festive lights, and joyous Christmas songs fill the space left by bland elevator music
a roaring greeting that Christmas is here with tinsel, glitter, baubles and booze, families gather
while next door, through paper thin walls, the sound of merriment and laughter echoes across empty rooms
just one seat taken at this Christmas feast of solitude and isolation
counting time with the ticking clock until normal life can once more resume
