All the Trimmings (Poem 2019 – 60)

Busy day today, hubby and I were cleaning and tidying the lounge/dining room to get ready to put up the tree.  However, little Musky is a nervous kitty and was stressed by the vacuum cleaner, stressed by things being moved and stressed that there was generally a lot more people movement than normal.  So while our room is much tidier and we now have space for the tree, we’re going to wait a couple of days before stressing him out by adding a (relatively speaking) massive tree to the room.

(poem a day: day 15)

All the Trimmings

tinsel strewn tree
baubles shine bright
topped with a star
encircled with lights

draped on the walls
ribbons and bows
Christmas cards written
church candles glow

children sing carols
in nativity plays
hoping for snowfall
and school holidays

shops full of people
their money is spent
cupboards are stocked
ahead of advent

too much to eat
our stomachs protest
no room for seconds
just throw out the rest

presents are wrapped
a colourful mound
spare change for homeless?
not even a pound

commercial brainwash
competitive drive
when others have nothing
but a will to survive

so think of your Christmas
all the trimmings in sight
help those less fortunate
and do what is right
