Working with mistakes

Working with mistakes

During art class, I had a bit of a disaster with my graded wash when I’d tried to repeat a salt effect background. On the advice of the teacher, I looked at how I could work with it to create a different image.

Inspired! I turned the paper upside down to use the darker portion as the sky, and set about drawing and painting an image of Hogwarts Castle. This worked really well with the problematic marks left by my mistakes, as the castle and rocks covered them nicely.

The castle and rocks were painted using Payne’s Grey, and the trees were a mix of Hooker’s Green and Payne’s Grey.
I used a 0.2mm black drawing pen to add the detail.
