Since I last wrote on here in early March so much and yet so little has happened. We are in the middle of the coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic and that means “lockdown”; approaching week 7 in the UK. So, while our options for being out of the house are limited, my personal options of craftwork and art within the house are endless!
Crochet summer beach bag
I bought this organic cotton yarn online with thoughts of making a summer jumper/cardigan, however when it arrived the green seemed very ‘green’ and a little too bright perhaps! However following this pattern from Hobbii I crocheted the perfect summer beach bag.
Having been reunited with my love of crochet I dug out an old magazine (as in many years old), found the free yarn that came with it and created the perfect starburst cushion for my den. The reverse was crocheted in cream and the filler pad I handmade from an old pillow and an old sheet… an upcycling dream!
Patchwork and Appliqué
This first project I started before lockdown commenced and is the cover image of the book Make Me I’m Yours… Cushions. This colourful apple tree may at some point be morphed into a cushion cover or incorporated into a bigger patchwork project but for now is simply beautiful.
My second project was completed Monday through Friday of last week, taking around 28 hours in total. From the book Classic Quilts Contemporary Style I completed this Ohio Star central panel using an old sheet and fabric scraps. While this book has beautiful images and pull out templates it is very limited on step by step instructions, however, I’m pleased with the outcome with the knowledge that I would do better next time! Again I’m not certain what comes next for this panel but look forward to working on it further.
That’s all for now, keep a lookout for my next post which shows some of the art I have been working on during lockdown.
