Lockdown Lowdown – Art

Lockdown Lowdown – Art

Here is a catch-up on some of the art I have worked on during lockdown.

Spring Pansies in watercolour

These originated from Facebook group that I stumbled upon. The Art of Wellness is run by Derwent ambassadors and its aim is to promote the mental health benefits of art (in addition to promoting Derwent art products). Each week there is a draw-a-long or paint-a-long and the first session was these spring pansies.

The demonstration piece used Derwent Inktense paints which really do produce lovely vibrant colours. I used my Derwent Academy watercolour pencils and enjoyed the class so much that I painted some more later that afternoon.

And with even more lovely Spring Pansies!

Butterfly in coloured pencils

This is the second tutorial from The Art of Wellness that I joined with, there was one on drawing cartoons in between but didn’t do that one. This used, I think, Derwent ProColour pencils in the demonstration which produce much brighter colours than the pencils I was using.

Monochrome Pansies

At a loose end one evening – well, every evening really since lockdown began! – I decided to draw the Spring Pansies with just pencils.

Kingfisher in watercolour

Once more The Art of Wellness Facebook group is to thank for this beautiful tutorial, again using Derwent Inktense paints in the demonstration. I completed with my own watercolour paints; the image on the left is the one I did during and then finished after the tutorial, on the right is a second watercolour I painted, mainly because I didn’t like the top of the head on the first one!

Painting and drawing is such an engaging hobby that time seems to just vanish while you’re lost in the process. There will definitely be more lockdown art coming your way!
