Watercolour – Tulips

Watercolour – Tulips

I absolutely love this image of tulips; from the pink and purple colours to the delicacy of the petals, it’s just beautiful.

This watercolour was taken from the book Watercolour Flowers by Julie King. I cannot recommend this book enough as it has very clear step by step instructions along with pull out templates which are on watercolour paper so you can paint directly on them if you want to.

I completed this in the garden and didn’t want to pull out the template page, I’d already walked in and out of the house a number of times and was feeling a bit lazy, so decided to not go back in for my tracing paper. My image (on the right) was hand drawn and ended up without sufficient space on the sheet for the fifth flower as shown on the original image on the left.

I loved painting these flowers, not only because they are so beautiful, but because I was in the garden listening to birdsong and feeling so relaxed and content with life!
