Mountain Sanctuary

Reaching the top, I sit and rest
my fingers run through
coarse mountain grass
with shades of green
fading to brown
in the scorching sun

Sparsely scattered colour
contrasting against
dusty arid soil
and gravelled path
with crystalline stones
reflecting light

Looking up to the sky
pure white clouds
like puffs of smoke
drifting lazily
the only blemishes
against the blue backdrop

Gentle breeze, cooling
my sun warmed face
ruffles my hair
as a haze of dust
rises from the earth
settles on my skin

Far below, a still
deep blue lake
punctuated with white
swirling motion
enclosed by a vibrant
forest of trees

The world distant
silence surrounds me
calming my thoughts
my mind empties
peace descends and
fills my soul
