There’s a Line (poem)

There’s a line that I walk
treading softly, deliberately
placing my feet carefully
balancing in baby steps
moving slowly forward

Imagine the crest of a mountain
a cliff face from which I fall
plummeting head over tail
flesh tearing on rocks as I tumble
to the jagged floor below

High above my crumpled body
the line that I need to return to
a line of delicate balance
I search for a way back
my steps fragile, my progress slow
